Day of Silence - Shush

"The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event was held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Hundreds of thousands of students came together on April 25 to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior."

I made a series of images devoted to the Day of Silence this past spring (2008). At the time I was in a Color class. The style is stipling done with markers over inking pens. This wasn't done for a class, or even used in posters or anything, it was just for fun really. I have been involved with gay rights groups since high school when one of my shy friends came out of the closet and asked me to accompany her to a Gay-Straight Alliance meeting. Please don't use any of these images without my permission, that's not what I made them for. They are an expression of my feelings on the subject and if you'd like to use them please ask me and credit me.
