Raccoon Mask:Process

Description

You can find out more about this piece on the Deviation for the final mask. I spent a lot of time on this, so I figured I would show a small glimpse of the process.

Since I have no experience with masks, I looked to merimask and google image search for ideas. Some of the basic design is inspired by Merimask's Tanuki and Merimask's White Fox. I spent a lot of time looking at pictures of raccoon faces and trying to bring everything together on a mask that's shaped for a cat and not a raccoon.

I used white Rustoleum to prime the mask after cleaning it.
I sketched the design out, and then inked it. (Inked version of design not shown).
The paint is acrylic, I began with the grey then added grey/brown and gave some highlights to look like fur. Then a painted the black and finally finished with the silver touches.
The shiny layer that you can see on the final version comes from a Rustoleum gloss.

Estimated time to create from sketches to final gloss: 8 hours?
